ANOTHER HANDBALL WIN FOR DESSIE

Congratulations to Dessie Keegan, Ballaghaderreen who won the Senior Colleges handball singles when he beat Ryan Dolan, Tyrone 21-5, 21-11. The Haugh brothers, Barry and Declan took part in the senior doubles and were unlucky to lose out to William Love and Andy Hosey, Kilkenny. Andy Moran, also from Ballaghaderreen took part in the Junior but lost out to Ken Reilly and Mark McCullough, Tyrone 2116, 16-21 and 9-21.

 

DEVELOPMENT DRAMA GROUP

Frenchpark Development Drama Group recently presented their 23rd annual show in the Parochial Hall, Frenchpark. The two plays staged were "The Marriage Plan” by Brian Drum and the "Rev Mister” by Donal Black. Once again, they lined up a great night's entertainment with lots of variety and humour. Many of the familiar faces were again featured in both drama productions. The characters in "The Marriage Plan” included Mary Devine O'Callaghan, from Ballaghaderreen, Vince Moran, Gerry Barrett, Sean Moran and Mary Connor. "The Rev Mister” featured Sinead Moran, Laura Madden, Sean Moran and Vince Moran. The director of both plays was Rita Hanily. On the both nights there were concert items which provided entertainment for young and old.

 

ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE

Ballaghaderreen & Districts Development Limited extend their thanks to all who supported the St. Patrick's Day Parade - the school bands, St. Attracta's N.S., Brosna N.S. and Scoil Muire, Roscommon; groups, floats etc., the sponsors and all who turned out in such great numbers to make this parade so successful. Also a high thank you to the Gardai for all their help with flow of traffic. Congratulations to all the winners who were:

MILLENNIUM LOGO DESIGNER

Wesley Roddy (19) from Cloonlumney, Ballaghaderreen has been presented with a cheque for £500 by Mr. Seamus Brennan, T.D. for his design of a millennium logo which has been shortlisted to represent Ireland. Over 40 students entered the competition. Wesley is a past pupil of St. Nathy’s College.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM DEFEAT CASTLEREA

The under 13 girls basketball team beat Castlerea in the Community Games competition. They are now in the semi-final on April 11th in Strokestown. We wish them every success.

 

SECOND YEAR GIRLS WIN LONLEITROS BASKETBALL FINAL

The second year girls from St Nathy's College, Ballaghaderreen beat Castlerea Community School by 29 to 27 in the Lonleitros final. Castlerea were a brave side who proved a tough challenge for St Nathy's. They fought very hard and tensions were high during this game. St Nathy's ended - up at one stage with only three players on the Court. On the winning St Nathy's team were; Michelle Kelly, Edel Colleran, Emma McDonald, Erin O'Hara, Elizabeth Mulligan, Antoinette Regan and Emma Horan. They go through to the Northwest Finals when they take on the Ursuline Convent, Sligo. The first year girls were, unlucky to lose out to Castlerea in the final of the same competition. The St Nathy's first and second year boys are in the Lonleitros finals. We wish them every success.

 

COMHGHAIRDEAS A LOUISE

Congratulations to Louise Rooney, a sixth class student in Brusna N.S. who was a runner up in the Telecom Eireann, Design a call card competition. Louise's design was chosen from an overall entry of 25,000. The children and staff of Brosna N.S. are very proud of Louise's achievement.

 

BALLAGHADERREEN DEFEAT LOUGH HARPS

Ballaghaderreen had a great 2-1 win over Lough Harps in the Roscommon and District League recently. After a bad start to the year, Ballaghaderreen got back to their winning ways recently.
