PLAYERS GIVE STAR PERFORMANCE AT PANTO

The fifth production by the very talented Ballaghaderreen group was a huge success. The costumes, lighting, choreography and music combined with the talents of the individual actors to make a winning combination. Well done to James Hope who played the role of the spider and gave a great performance as did Lorcan Leavy as Dame Dolly Drinkup and Flip and Flop, played by Mark Davern and Eleanor Doohan. Michael Frain as Jasper also got the audience into the mood and added to their enjoyment. People of all ages were involved in this very ambitious production and all played their part in making it the success that it was. Well done to the producer Gerry Ferguson, musical director, Pauline Northfield and choreographer Leonie McDonagh who all played their part in this great panto. Gerry Ferguson paid tribute to the great community spirit that is so evident in Ballaghaderreen and said he was delighted with the success of the pantomime. The members of the Musical Society have extended their thanks to the priests at St Nathy's College for giving them the use of the College Hall and the priests of the Parish for the use of the Parish Hall for rehearsals.

SPRING PROGRAMME AT THE FAMILY INSTITUTE

A number of courses are currently running at the Family Institute in Ballaghaderreen this spring. The first course has already taken place. Entitled self-esteem, it focused on the meaning of self-esteem and gave guidelines to help build a healthy respect for ourselves and to live life with confidence and fulfilment. The presenter was Ethna O'Grady, Family Therapist. A talk on assertiveness was also given on Tuesday February 16th. In this session, people learned to stand up for themselves, deal with criticism and be more confident. Anne Meagher, Dip Counselling Psychology, gave this course. A talk on communication in families was given on Tuesday February 23rd. Many problems in families are due to lack of communication. This course examined how our skills of listening and speaking can be examined more effectively in our families. Martina Barren, Psychotherapist, gave it. A number of other interesting courses will also take place during the month of March. More details on these later.

BAND PREPARE FOR ST. PATRICK'S DAY

The newly reformed Carracastle Fife and Drum band will perform on St Patrick's Day and practice has commenced every Monday night in Carracastle Community Centre from 8.30 to 9.30 p.m. The band are in urgent need of more fife, drum and cymbal players as well as banner carriers. They would appreciate the return of as many past members as possible and are appealing to the parents of children and young adults, not already involved in school bands and who are interested in music to get involved with the band and come along to practices. The band is part of our rich heritage and it is up to us to nurture and restore it to its former glory and pass it on to future generations.
